The latest season of Black Ops 6 began on April 2nd. Here is everything you need to know about what it has to offer.

Zombies

Shattered Veil (minor spoilers)

The newest addition to Black Ops Zombies is the map Shattered Veil. Have you wondered what SAM looks like? Wonder no longer. Discover her, or I suppose “it” in the basement lab of this glorious haunted mansion.

We follow the group after the events at The Tomb, with the Sentinel Artifact in tow. You quickly realize the player has a lot of quest item slots to fill, so you’re in for a bit of a long haul.

The map includes new enemies such as the Toxic Zombie which explode on death, and the Elder Disciple which is basically a flying zombie necromancer.

Completing the Shattered Veil easter egg requires puzzle solving, finding hidden items, discovering secret rooms, powering up a wonder weapon, and killing lots and lots of zombies… so yeah, just about everything you’d expect. Click here for a full guide.

Double Tap

The Double Tap perk increases a weapons fire rate. When researched, this one is going to make an enormous impact. Possible augments are as follows:

DOUBLE TIME – Increase fire rate bonus.

DOUBLE JEOPARDY – Normal Zombies at low health have a chance to die immediately when shot.

DOUBLE OR NOTHING – Weapons have a chance to do double damage, but also have a chance to do 0 damage.

DOUBLE STANDARD – All non-critical shots do double damage. Only applies to normal bullet weapons.

DOUBLE PAY – Killing two enemies in quick succession will have a chance to return 2 rounds to your magazine. Only applies to normal bullet weapons.

DOUBLE IMPACT – Double hits on the same target in a quick succession deal more damage.

New Multiplayer Maps

On the season 3 launch, we got 3 new maps:

• Barrage – a 6v6 mid-sized map set in 1968 Vietnam

• Firing Range – a 6v6 mid-sized map from the original Black Ops

• Nomad – a 2v2 & 6v6 smaller map set in 1986 Afghanistan

Coming mid-season will be two more maps:

• Haven – a 6v6 mid-sized map set in a KGB safehouse

• Signal – a 2v2 & 6v6 smaller map set in a submarine operations room

Keep an eye out for a unique limited time Nuketown variant later this season as well!

New Multiplayer Game Modes

Demolition

Similar to Search and Destroy, the objective of this mode is either to plant bombs or to defend the bomb sites. They key differences are as follows:

Players can respawn, so the goal of defense is to run out the clock. The attacking team has to detonate both sites before time runs out, receiving a time bonus after the first.

Winner is best of 3 rounds, with a final round going into a tie-breaker where both teams try to detonate one site.

Sharpshooter

A free-for-all party mode where all players have the same loadout. Every 45 seconds the loadout changes, preceded by a countdown.

Getting kill streaks give bonuses such as increased movement speed and bonus points.

Joint Operations

Coming mid-season, Joint Operations is essentially a handful of the core modes all crammed into one. The game will cycle between Kill Order, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, etc. The various game modes can be paired with random status effects as well.

Warzone: Verdansk

The original Warzone map that first operated during the worst of the COVID epidemic, has made its return!

Loosely based on the Ukranian city of Dunetsk, this map includes a quarry, stadium, airport, and downtown area as well as other points of interest.

Season 3 BattlePass

The new season of course means a new BattlePass. There is the usual 1100 COD Points, XP Tokens, and occasional Gobblegums. Some other notable items include:

Two New Guns

HDR – The HDR Sniper Rifle debuted in the new Modern Warfare, and has also appeared in COD:Mobile. Incredibly powerful, but a bit on the slower side, the HDR is for a confident sniper to make quick work of an opponent. Not typically a quick-scope go-to.

CR-56 AMAX – Also returning to the already sizable Assault Rifle collection is the CR-56 AMAX. For older players, this is a re-imagining of the Galil. With a default Mag size of 30, the AMAX has solid accuracy, and fairly standard power.

Skins

As an instant reward, we gain the operator MACE, who later has the Apocalypse King skin, which just screams Donnie Darko to me.

On page 3 we meet HUDSON, who then receives the Icebreaker skin on page 14; which is basically moving blue camo and I think its honestly much cooler than its BLACKCELL variant.

WOODS gets a snow outfit named Winter Guise.

For MARSHALL: the bio-warfare style Hazard Prep skin.

MAYA gets the Rogue Archer skin which looks very Dune meets Hunger Games.

PARK gets Survivors Guile, a rad Cold War vibe skin.

On Page 13 STONE has the skin All Terrain, which has a BLACKCELL variant I can see being very popular.

CAINE gets the super badass Future Combatant skin on page 14.

However, the winner in badassery probably goes to Jug-O-Naut for TORO. On the final page, this super geared up skin looks like if you put a supermutant in power armor. The BLACKCELL and regular version are both equally cool IMO.

Other Fun Stuff

The Final Unlock is the glowing VERDEROUS MENACE blueprint, which gives off toy gun vibes in the best possible way.

The BLIND TRUTH weapon charm goes unbelievably hard. This charm parodies the idiom “The truth is blind” by featuring what appears to be a blindfolded George Washington head what the blindfold reading “THE TRUTH LIES”

The STAINED STEEL cleaver blueprint is also a favorite of mine. Perfect for Zombies, this thing is pure Horror/Gore artwork.

The GET CUPCAKED frag skin is adorable. If it tastes as good as it looks, maybe getting hit by its shrapnel is not so bad?

Now as far as the Hunger Games vibes go: the STEEL SPARROW weapon charm is definitely as close as you can get.

BLACKCELL

BLACKCELL comes with its usual stylized variants of certain unlocks, as well as the R0-Z3 Operator instant reward, and a fun martial arts emote.
